The statewide Cash for Appliances Program, which offers mail-in rebates for energy efficient appliances, is expanding to now include dishwashers ($100), freezers ($50), water heaters ($300-$750), and HVAC systems ($500-$1,000). Existing rebates include up to $200 for refrigerators, clothes washers, and room air conditioners.
Chula Vista community members, who buy an eligible appliance from a local Chula Vista appliance store and install the new appliance at a Chula Vista address, can also receive an additional instant rebate up to $200. The rebate is offered through the Chula Vista Appliance Exchange Rebate Program sponsored by the City of Chula Vista and the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce. Participating local appliance stores include:
- Best Buy (Otay Ranch Town Center or South Bay Marketplace)
- The Home Depot (Rancho del Rey or EastLake Terraces)
- K-Mart (Rancho del Rey)
- Sears (Chula Vista Center)
Both rebate programs require that the new energy-saving appliances replace existing appliances, which are properly disposed through a certified recycler.
