Last week, the Chula Vista City Council voted to suspend the collection of development impact fees for five years in the city’s redevelopment project areas. Effective February 19, qualifying new development projects will not be required to pay development impact fees. Gary Halbert, Assistant City Manager, stated the suspension is aimed at incentivizing new market-rate housing in all redevelopment areas. “This effort could save developers approximately $17,000 per unit. The fee suspension will lower development costs and encourage new construction in western Chula Vista.” The suspension also applies to new commercial and industrial development within specific redevelopment areas of south Chula Vista.
