|The Chula Vista Public Library (CVPL) has expanded its services with eBooks, available to download from the librarys website. Library card holders can check out and download digital books anytime, anywhere, by visiting the library's homepage at www.chulavistalibrary.com. Users will need to install the free software Adobe Digital Editions to read eBooks and then download to PC, MAC and other mobile devices, including iPod, Sony Reader, and many others. Titles will automatically expire at the end of the 14-day lending period. There are no late fees and no need to drive to the library to return books!
"The Library is excited to offer thousands of best selling titles. We know our public love the convenience of portable book readers so this service will allow owners of Nooks, I-Pads and other electronic readers to obtain titles at no cost," said Library Director Betty Waznis. The service will increase to include Kindle readers later this year.
Powered by OverDrive, the new service is free for CVPL patrons with their library card. OverDrive is a leading distributor of eBooks to thousands of libraries, and service to CVPL is funded totally by a California State Library LSTA grant through the SERRA Regional Library Cooperative.
In addition, the Library is happy to announce new expanded hours. Effective July 29, both Civic Center (365 F Street) and South Branch (389 Orange Avenue) will be open seven days a week. The new schedule will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
