Effective immediately, the Chula Vista Recreation Department will begin phasing in additional hours of operation at three initial recreation locations. The extended hours are the result of a strategic planning workshop by Recreation staff who identified critical hours of service and reallocated resources to optimize hours of operation. New hours include: Parkway Community Center, 373 Park Way, (619) 691-5083; Mondays, 2:30-6:30 p.m.; Tuesdays, 2:30-9 p.m.; Wednesdays, 2:30-6:30 p.m.; Thursdays, 2:30-9 p.m. Parkway Gymnasium, 385 Park Way, (619) 691-5084; Mondays, 5-8: p.m.; Fridays, 5-9 p.m.; Sundays, 12-3:45 p.m.; and Veterans Park & Recreation Center, 1381 E. Palomar St., (619) 421-7032; Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 2-7 p.m. Since January 2011, all Chula Vista Recreation Centers have been open two days a week due to budget reductions and the non-passage of Proposition H in the November 2010 General Election. “We are planning to open our remaining recreation centers additional days and hours for critical hours of service in October,” said Director of Recreation Buck Martin. The city operates eight recreation centers, a senior center, and two swimming pools. For more information regarding the Chula Vista Recreation Department, please go to: www.chulavistaca.gov/rec.
