| NEW YEAR, NEW SUIT |
| |
To help start the new year, Chula Vista’s Recreation Department is providing free swim suits to young swimmers and water polo players. The donated suits are available to children and teens that demonstrate financial need, and are actively participating in a competitive aquatic program or registered for swim lessons with the City. Over 200 swim suits were donated by Lincoln Aquatics, Knotts Soak City, Q Swimwear, and the Make a Splash Program through USA Swimming. The program will continue through March 30 while supplies last. "We know that one of the reasons that drowning is such a significant problem among children is that they do not have access to swim lessons," said Mark Basnight with Lincoln Aquatics. "Lincoln wanted to support this effort because we know that sometimes something as simple as having a nice swim suit can motivate a child to learn to swim.” The City has also started accepting tax deductible donations for the 2013 swim suit drive. For forms, additional information on how to donate, or to receive free suits, please visit www.chulavistaca.gov/goto/swim, or call (619) 691-5088.
