|The City of Chula Vista is now on Twitter – www.twitter.com/ThinkChulaVista. Followers will be able to hear about City events, news, facts, and information. This follows the successful launch of the City Facebook page last fall.
“Social media is another way we can communicate with residents about what’s happening in Chula Vista,” said City Manager Jim Sandoval. “Follow us to learn the latest local business news, recreation and library events, public safety information, and more!”
According to a study conducted by the University of Illinois, city government use of social media continues to climb. More than six times as many big city governments (75 most populous cities in the U.S.) reached citizens via Facebook in 2011 compared to 2009, while use of YouTube and Twitter grew fourfold and threefold respectively.
The City of Chula Vista will use Twitter as an additional option to encourage public engagement and participation; promote city businesses, attractions, and events; celebrate city successes; and inform residents in an emergency.
