As part of a grant from San Diego Gas and Electric, the Chula Vista Public Library has set up Energy Lounges at both the Civic Center (365 F Street) and South Chula Vista (389 Orange Avenue) Libraries. Each Energy Lounge is designed to make it easy for home owners to access information on energy conservation. Stay-a-while seating and conveniently placed book displays showcase a collection that includes books on creating zero energy homes, solar power options, weatherproofing, green interior design, and making energy-efficient choices. As well as books, the library has added a number of tools that can be borrowed for up to three weeks, with a Chula Vista Library card. The tools include energy use monitors that can tell how much power an appliance uses and non-contact infrared thermometers to help find cold and warm spots in a home. So as summer approaches and the DIY (Do It Yourself) season gets into full swing, consider visiting the library to find out what energy efficiencies you can include in your next home project.
