|For children, the start of each school year often brings with it new clothes and shoes; unfortunately, many families are not able to provide either. Perhaps more unfortunate is that students with damaged or tattered footwear are sometimes teased or even subjected to bullying, impacting their self-esteem and making it difficult to focus on their studies. The Chula Vista Police Department is helping local students by conducting their second annual School Resource Officer Shoes and Socks Give-Away.
Thanks to the generous contributions from the Chula Vista community, last year's event was a tremendous success. Once again members of the police department are requesting monetary donations in their effort to provide shoes and socks for 500 boys and girls. School Resource Officers are working closely with school principals and nurses, as well as counselors from South Bay Community Services, to identify children who are most in need.
To help provide footwear to these children, please send your donation to the Chula Vista Police Foundation, ATTN: Officer Hughes, 315 Fourth Avenue, Chula Vista, CA 91910, (checks should be made payable to "Chula Vista Police Foundation;" with a memo notation of "Shoes and Socks Event"). The Chula Vista Police Foundation is a 501(C)3 tax exempt organization and donations are tax deductible.
Identified children will be invited to the Payless Shoe Source in the Chula Vista Shopping Center, 555 Broadway, on August 19 at 8 a.m. to select their new socks and shoes.
