In an effort to make internet access available to more people through public libraries, California Public Libraries are conducting a Google Chromebook Pilot Project. Chula Vista Public Library is one of 40 libraries around the state participating. The Chromebook is a new, lightweight computer based on Google’s Chrome browser. It is fast – booting up in 8 seconds, secure, and very easy to use. And there’s no need to save your work on a disc as it all goes on the Cloud retrievable from any computer any time.

Chula Vista Public Library received 30 Samsung Chromebooks which are available at all three branches for seven day check out or two hour in-library use. Patrons must have a Chula Vista Public Library card, be at least 18 years old, and sign an additional agreement reconfirming borrower responsibilities. There is no fee to check out the Chromebook, however, late fees and replacement costs will apply if it is not returned when due.

“The simplicity and security of the Chromebook makes this ideal for lending to library users,” said Library Director Betty Waznis. “The library is a starting place for anything the community wants to learn, and Chromebooks are one tool that can help our users do just that.”

For more information, visit, call (619) 691-5138, or drop by your local branch at Civic Center, 365 F Street, South Branch, 389 Orange Avenue, or Otay Ranch Town Center Branch, in the mall next to the food court.
