|What can you do in under eight hours that will benefit a neighborhood park for many years to come? Well, if you are the City of Chula Vista, you help build a new playground at Hilltop Park! That is exactly what happened last Saturday in a unique collaboration between KaBOOM!, Foresters, Turning the Hearts Center and City Public Works staff who joined an enthusiastic crowd of volunteers.
Over 200 volunteers teamed up to provide a complete overhaul of the park’s 30 year-old equipment. Besides installing new features such as Triple Racer Slides, Rockblocks Climbing Wall and Scavenger Hunt, the new playground also features a nine hole course of Frisbee golf. In addition, volunteers built new park benches, installed new signage, painted picnic gazebos and the park’s restrooms. The old playground equipment was donated to a bi-national non-profit organization for use in a Tijuana park.
A grand re-opening of the new 4,500 square-foot playground is scheduled for Friday, August 9 at 3 p.m.
