|Friday the 13th is considered to be bad luck by some, but for thirteen Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD) members, the day is a lucky one for them as they are promoted within the department on Friday, December 13. The large number of promotions is due to the recent spate of officer retirements, including Captain Gary Wedge after 29 years of sworn service with CVPD.
Promoted to Police Captain are Roxana Kennedy, (the first female captain in the department’s history) who will be leading Support Operations Division, and Lon Turner handling the Investigations Division and PIO duties. New Police Lieutenants include Donald Redmond and Kenneth Heinz. Francis Giaime and Jeffrey Hobson are being promoted to Police Sergeant, and new Police Agents include Eric Carter, Brian Racine, Matt Sherard, Glenn Gossett, Fredrick Rowbotham, Ernesto Pinedo, and Alicia Chudy.
In addition to the promotions above, Captain Gary Ficacci will assume Patrol Operations. CVPD is currently staffed with over two hundred officers who were instrumental in the City recently being named as the 10th Safest City in the Country of cities with a population of 200,000 or more according to FBI statistics.
The promotional ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. in the City Council Chambers, 276 Fourth Avenue.
