|According to fitness experts, there is no better exercise than swimming. Anyone can do it, the pool fees are inexpensive, and in sunny California, pools are available pretty much year round. Now, thanks to the Friends of Chula Vista Parks and Recreation, Parkway Aquatic Center is offering two new programs: lap swim and deep water aerobics. Both programs will be offered Tuesday and Thursday from March 4 through June 12, at the Parkway Pool, 385 Park Way. Adult admission for lap swim is $4 per swim or $24 for 10 swims. Senior admission is $ 3 per swim or $18 for 10 swims. Lap swim will be open from 12-2 p.m.
Deep water aerobics, which is $4 per class or $35 for 10 classes, is scheduled from 12-1 p.m. Deep water aerobics is a low-impact yet challenging workout conducted in deep water. Workout includes a warm-up, cardio-respiratory, strengthening, abdominal work and a cool down. Participants will benefit from using the natural resistance and buoyancy of the water to avoid subjecting the body to the stress and impact of walking or running on land.
The City is grateful to the Friends donation which brings back the popular lap swim this season. It was eliminated five years ago during budget cuts. The donation of $988 pays for the aquatic staff to monitor the pool during both programs.
