CHULA VISTA OFFICES CLOSED MARCH 31
 
The City of Chula Vista offices and most facilities will be closed on Monday, March 31, in observance of Cesar Chavez Day. Closures include all city recreation centers, pools and libraries.

Public safety will not be affected by the holiday schedule. Emergency 9-1-1 calls, and police and fire stations will provide regular daily 24-hour services. Public works services including streets and sewers will be available on an emergency-only basis. Trash removal in the city of Chula Vista will not be delayed and will run on a regular schedule.

The City of Chula Vista has declared the week of March 24 to be Southwestern College Chicano/Latino Coalition week for their annual scholarship distribution and breakfast in honor of Cesar E. Chavez. In the past nine years, more than $50,000 in scholarships has been awarded to Southwestern College students. The tenth annual breakfast to honor the 2014 students will be held on March 28, from 7-9 a.m. at the College’s Student Union East. Cesar Chavez Day was established to honor the founder of the United Farm Workers of America. Chavez led the effort to organize migrant farm workers throughout America and is credited with improving pay and labor conditions for hundreds of thousands of agriculture workers.
