The International Friendship Commission of the City of Chula Vista is now accepting applications for the 2014 Youth Exchange Program with Odawara, Japan. Four Chula Vista residents between the ages of 18 and 23 will be selected to spend two weeks with Japanese host families in Odawara and then host the Japanese students here for two weeks. Candidates are expected to be either young professionals or in college or college bound students and must be U.S. Citizens. The Commission provides up to a $1,000 travel stipend toward airfare.

The exchange is from July 27 through August 20, 2014. Chula Vista delegates will depart on July 27, and return with their respective Japanese delegates on August 8. Japanese delegates will return home on August 20. The Chula Vista delegates selected must participate in all aspects of the Exchange Program and its projects and reports.

Applications are available online at, and from International Friendship Commissioners or high school/college counselors. Students must turn in their applications to the International Friendship Commission secretary, Lilia Cesena, at the Mayor and Council offices by 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 24. An informational meeting to answer any questions candidates may have will be held on Wednesday, April 16, at 6 p.m. The location will be at City Hall, Building A, 276 Fourth Avenue, in the Executive Conference Room.
