|The City of Chula Vista recently asked the public to nominate a person or group living or working in the City who has demonstrated efforts to help improve the City’s environment. The City’s CLEAN Champion Awards are designed to recognize individuals and groups who help achieve clean air, clean water, and clean land within Chula Vista.
After receiving nominations from the public and City staff, the Resource Conservation Commission selected the following CLEAN Champion Award winners: CLEAN Air Award – recognizes efforts to improve air quality and reduce GHG emissions, MAAC Project; CLEAN Water Award – recognizes efforts to improve water quality and lower water use, Harry Orgovan from Chula Vista Kayak; CLEAN Land Award – recognize efforts to improve habitat quality and reduce waste, Gracia y Paz Covenant Church; CLEAN Youth Award – recognizes the environmental leadership of a youth organization or individual under 18-years old, Julian Estrada; and CLEAN City Employee Award – recognizes a municipal employee (in a non-environmental position) that has contributed to improving the City’s sustainability, Jose Dorado (Project Coordinator, Housing Division).
The Resource Conservation Commission recognizes the awards program as an annual tradition that both celebrates local environmental champions and inspires others to keep Chula Vista CLEAN. More information on the City of Chula Vista’s environmental programs and services can be found at www.chulavistaca.gov/clean.
