At last week’s Ninth Annual San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) Energy Showcase event, Chula Vista was honored by SDG&E as an Energy Champion for its outstanding results in energy efficiency and conservation.

The City of Chula Vista has been at the forefront of sustainability since adopting its first Climate Action Plan in 2000. Just recently, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized the City’s impactful efforts with the prestigious Climate Leadership Award. Some City program highlights include a comprehensive Climate Action Plan, participation in regional energy-efficiency collaboratives, sustainable energy home showcases, adaptive street light controls pilot, small business energy evaluations, and mandatory reach codes to exceed Title 24 standards. Over the last year, SDG&E incentives for energy retrofits at City-owned buildings totaled $476,299 with an annual savings of 936,970 kWh. Chula Vista and SDG&E have been working closely since 2006 through a Local Government Partnership to promote energy efficiency at municipal facilities and throughout the community.

“Every year we see our customers continue to set the bar higher for energy savings and conservation, and the customers who have been recognized as Energy Champions this year have set an incredible example for all local businesses to follow,” said Caroline Winn, vice president of customer services for SDG&E. “We look forward to continuing to help our business customers find new ways to save energy and money through the many rebates and incentives that are available through SDG&E’s energy-efficiency and demand response programs.”

SDG&E offers its business customers solutions to manage and save energy including energy rebates, demand response programs, free onsite energy-efficiency assessments and zero-interest financing programs.
