Safe Disposal of Sharps WasteSharps Waste Disposal Container

California law prohibited the disposal of sharps waste, syringes and lancets in the trash. Sharps may accidentally stick and expose children, housekeepers, janitors, trash collectors and pets to disease when improperly stored or discarded.


Options


  • Ask your health care provider, pharmacist or the manufacturer if they take back used needles, lancets or syringes.
  • Contact any of the pharmacies listed below to order your free mail-back container. Simply pick up a container, place your sharps inside and use the included postage-paid box to mail it. The program is limited to three containers per year, per resident. You'll need to present proof of residency in Chula Vista to pharmacy staff to receive your FREE mail-back container.

  • Take your used needles, lancets, and syringes to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility located at 1800 Maxwell Road open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9am to 1pm. Please place sharps in a puncture-proof, shatter-proof container with a tight lid (i.e. bleach or detergent bottle).

Do not dispose of sharps in the trash, recycling containers, by flushing down the toilet or in a storm drain!
