11/14/2009 - Help Restore Nesting Habitat for Snowy Plover 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Location:
San Diego National Wildlife Refuge - Sweetwater Unit
Date: 11/14/2009
Time: 9am - 12pm
Sponsored by: San Diego Audubon Society
You're invited to join the San Diego Audubon society for a unique opportunity to improve nesting habitat for the threatened Western Snowy Plover at the Sweetwater Unit of the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge Complex in Chula Vista. We'll be working to remove ice plant that is encroaching onto this important nesting site. We'll also be picking up trash in the refuge. You don't need any special skills to volunteer - only a willingness to learn, work hard, and get your hands dirty!
Volunteers should work in old clothes (ice plant stains!), long pants and boots or sturdy shoes and wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and hats. We will provide work gloves, tools, snacks and water. If you have one, feel free to bring your own reusable water bottle to help us reduce paper cup waste.
Directions: From I-5, exit Mile of Cars/Bay Marina Drive and turn west. Turn left on Marina Way. Meet at the entrance of the bike path on the east side of the street just as Marina Way curves to the right. Parking is available along Marina Way or west of the marina at Pepper Park.
Lost? Call Shannon Dougherty at (619) 550-9529. Note: Do not "Google" directions to 'San Diego National Wildlife Refuge' - this will take you to the Chula Vista Nature Center.
If you have questions and/or will be attending as a group of 10 or more people, please contact Shannon Dougherty at dougherty@sandiegoaudubon.org or by phone at (858) 273-7800 x101.
