Special Services for Small Quantity Generators

(single-family households or businesses with cart service)

Landfill Passes and Yard Waste Passes

Contact Republic Services at (619) 421-9400 to arrange for your pass.

Each Small Quantity Generator is entitled to two free landfill passes and two free yardwaste passes per year to the Otay Landfill. Your account must be current with Republic Services.

The passes are good for 60 days.  You can request passes via phone, fax, email, or in person.  Passes may be picked up at the Republic Services office or be mailed to your service address. Their office is located at 881 Energy Way. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays 8 a.m. to Noon. Consider using one of your free annual yard waste passes whenever you are recycling an exceptionally large amount of yard waste.

  • Recycle: Please load your vehicle to keep the following materials separated for recycling: concrete/asphalt, metals, appliances, clean wood and yard waste.
  • Load Limits: Each pass may be used for a maximum material weight of 1 ton. Loads over 1 ton will be charged current landfill rates for the additional material. Be careful, do not exceed the recommended weight capacity of your vehicle.
  • Secure Loads: Please be careful to secure all materials in your vehicle before transporting. Use a tarp, rope or other means to ensure that no material is lost in transit.
  • When you go to the Otay Landfill to use your landfill pass you will be sent to the Convenience Center located at the main entrance;

Free Weekly Bulky Item Collection Service
Chula Vista residents with curbside service can have up to 10 bulky items picked up weekly, or 60 items in any 90 day period, free of charge. Additional items may be picked up for a small fee item or a per half-hour service fee for large/hard to handle items.. 

Please call Republic Services at (619) 421-9400 at least 24 hours before your service day to schedule a this special services.

Difficult-to-handle items over 60 pounds that cannot be handled with a hand truck will be picked up for the half-hour service fee.

Free bulky item service includes non-hazardous, non-infectious household bulky items such as:

• Empty propane tanks • Scrap metal 
• Washers or dryers • Refrigerators
• Lawn furniture • Sofas
• Chairs • Mattresses
• Barbeques • Appliances
  • Flocked or plastic holiday trees

Holiday Tree Recycling
Residents with curbside yard waste service can place their tree at the curb on any yard waste collection day.

To prepare your tree for recycling or disposal:
            • Remove all ornaments, tinsel, and garland
            • Take tree out of plastic or metal stands
            • Cut the tree so that each portion is 4 feet or less

Flocked and plastic trees are not recyclable and must be disposed of as a bulky item.

Place your used cooking oil in a bottle or container with a watertight lid.

Call Republic Services at (619) 421-9400 two days before your regular collection day, then put your oil at the curb for pickup.


Take your oil to the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Facility* located at 1800 Maxwell Road on Wednesday and Saturdays from 9am to 1pm (except holiday weekends).
