SAVE A LIFE SUMMER EVENT

With Labor Day approaching, a big pool holiday, Chula Vista's Fire and Community Services Departments will offer residents a free water safety program on Saturday, August 11th. The Save a Life Summer Event is scheduled from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. with a movie in the pool being shown immediately following the event. The event will take place at Loma Verde Aquatic Center, 1420 Loma Lane. Children will receive free swim lessons, water safety activity books, and learn how to properly use a life jacket. Parents will receive an introduction to the importance of learning CPR. We will have free recreational swim for the community. Attendees will also be treated to a barbeque hosted by the Chula Vista Firefighter's Foundation. Be sure to stick around after the event to enjoy a movie in the pool. Empower Hour will have activities for the kids beginning at 5:30pm. The movie will begin at dusk.

Tragically, drowning remains the leading cause of unintended; injury related death for children ages 1-4, and the second leading cause of accidental death for children under 14. Research shows participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88% among children aged 1 to 4, yet many kids do not receive formal swimming or water safety training. For more information about Chula Vista's water safety program, visit http://watersafety.chulavistaca.gov

Classes are scheduled at 4:30pm, 5:05pm, 5:40pm, 6:15pm and 6:50pm.  All swimming lesson and recreational swim participants are required to wear a bathing suit. Children under the age of 4 must wear a swim diaper regardless of potty training. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled lesson. Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied in the water by an adult in order to participate in recreational swim and movie night. Check-in table for the event will be located in the spectator area. If you have further questions please call Loma Verde Pool at 619-409-1987
