Community Invitation – Military Equipment Public Forum, Presented by the Chula Vista Police Department

The public is invited to attend the Chula Vista Police Department’s presentation on military equipment used and maintained by the department.

On Wednesday, April 29th, 2026, the Chula Vista Police Department will host the presentation at the City of Chula Vista Council Chambers at 276 Fourth Avenue in Chula Vista, from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. Leaders in the organization will present on the department’s Annual Military Equipment Use Report and outline its current uses for military-style equipment. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, make comments, and voice concerns.

California State Assembly Bill 481 (AB 481), which became law in January of 2022, requires law enforcement agencies to post an annual report detailing specific information, including inventory, cost, and usage of military-style equipment for the previous year. In addition to specialized equipment, the report also includes commonly used police equipment, such as command vehicles, off-the-shelf drones, and less-lethal tools, which the new law has redefined as military-style equipment.

The Chula Vista Police Department remains committed to transparency and accountability. They encourage the public to attend the presentation and see how the outlined equipment is important in maintaining public safety and providing the highest quality of service to the community.

The public can find more information on AB 481, as well as the Annual Military Equipment Use Report, on the Chula Vista Police Department website.

The public can also voice concerns, ask questions, or comment via the Chula Vista Police Department contact form.
