This two-day course builds upon training and equipment requirements outlined in Cal OES ICS-162-4 and NWCG PMS 552, preparing both new and experienced REMS team members to operate effectively in remote environments. Training will take place in hike-in and/or Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) access areas, providing a realistic operational setting.
Students will train and operate with vehicles and equipment used on REMS assignments, ensuring proper selection, familiarity, and application in the field. UTV operations are integrated into the course, and upon successful completion of coursework and practical application, students will receive certification through the Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association (ROHVA), which is required for REMS teams that operate with a UTV.
