SUMMARY:Rapid Extrication Module (REMS) Workshop
DESCRIPTION:<p></p><div data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">This two-day course builds upon training and equipment requirements outlined in Cal OES ICS-162-4 and NWCG PMS 552, preparing both new and experienced REMS team members to operate effectively in remote environments.&nbsp; Training will take place in hike-in and/or Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) access areas, providing a realistic operational setting.</div><div>Students will train and operate with vehicles and equipment used on REMS assignments, ensuring proper selection, familiarity, and application in the field. UTV operations are integrated into the course, and upon successful completion of coursework and practical application, students will receive certification through the Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association (ROHVA), which is required for REMS teams that operate with a UTV.</div><p>&nbsp;</p><div><b><u>Course Objectives</u></b></div><div>By the end of this course, the student will be able to:</div><p>&nbsp;</p><ul>    <li>Select appropriate equipment to direct and operate lowering and raising systems using limited gear and personnel</li>    <li>Select, construct and operate variations of highlines to access difficult locations</li>    <li>Construct advanced anchor systems</li>    <li>Construct and operate belay systems using alternative methods</li>    <li>Rappel using lightweight gear and technical rated equipment</li>    <li>Operate within specified static system safety factor margins</li>    <li>Navigate over land using GPS and other app-based programs</li>    <li>Operate UTV safely by completing onsite the ROHVA certified Basic Driver Course, or if already possessed, by training on an alternate practical application course</li>    <li>Direct and participate in the hike in extraction of simulated multiple patients from a limited access area</li></ul><p></p><div>PPE (required): Helmet, gloves, long pants, long sleeve shirt or jacket, and hiking boots</div><div>Personal gear (recommended): sunscreen, reusable water container, lunch</div><div>Equipment: All vehicles and equipment will be provided. If desired, bring and use vehicles and equipment from home agency for familiarity</div><p>&nbsp;</p><div>Training prerequisites: Rope Rescue Awareness/ Operations (RRAO)</div><p>&nbsp;</p><div>Instructor Cadre: REMS team members with multiple deployments of experience, Certified ROHVA Driver Coaches, CA SFT RRT and RRAO instructors</div><p>&nbsp;</p><div>Capacity: Minimum 6, maximum of 12. If minimum is not reached 7 days before class start date, it will be cancelled, and refunds will be processed. Tuition is non-refundable if a cancellation by student is received within 7 days prior to the class start date.</div><div></div><p>&nbsp;</p>
