You can celebrate the legacy of the great civil rights leader, Martin Luther King, Jr., in a variety of ways when America recognizes him with a holiday on Monday, January 15. 

Some tickets are still available for the 33rd annual YMCA of San Diego County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Human Dignity Award Breakfast which will host more than 1,200 people on Friday, January 12, from 6 to 9 a.m. For details, go to

The 30th All Peoples Celebration will be held on Sunday, January 14, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Balboa Activity Center in Balboa Park. Featuring local musical and spoken word artists, multimedia presentations, and visionary speakers, the program will be a dynamic commemoration of the Civil Rights Movement. There will also be a Community Space, which provides free access for the public and an opportunity to learn about and interact with many San Diego non-profit organizations. Thousands are expected to view the 38th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day parade scheduled for Sunday, January 14, beginning at 2 p.m. in San Diego. Participants, which include a contingent from the Chula Vista Police Department, will march along the Embarcadero from North Harbor Drive south to Pacific Highway.

City of Chula Vista offices, facilities and libraries will be closed for the Monday holiday, however, public safety will provide regular daily 24-hour service. Trash service in the City of Chula Vista will not be affected.  All offices will reopen on Tuesday, January 16.
