CHULA VISTA CELEBRATES SMART CITIES WEEK
Smart Cities Council Annual Conference Arrives in San Diego
In recognition of its continued commitment to building a smarter and more sustainable city for its citizens, the city of Chula Vista has proclaimed the week of April 15, 2019, as
Smart Cities Week.
This announcement coincides with the arrival of the Smart Cities Week conference in San Diego April 15 - 17. The event, hosted by the Smart Cities Council, is the West Coast’s premier gathering of smart cities changemakers. The conference moved to the San Diego region after previously being held in Silicon Valley.
Chula Vista is featured prominently in this year’s event. Mayor Mary Casillas Salas is participating in a Mayoral Roundtable with other regional leaders during the conference’s opening plenary session. In addition, Assistant City Manager Maria Kachadoorian and Chief Sustainability Officer Dennis Gakunga will be offering their expertise in several sessions.
Chula Vista will be showcased during a tour of the city’s police department and the Drone as First Responder (DFR) program, a ground-breaking project with the San Diego Integrated Pilot Program (IPP) and the Federal Aviation Administration. Conference attendees will have an opportunity to visit the police department’s drone control center to see first-hand how drones are providing critical real-time data for first responders.
“The City of Chula Vista is thrilled to have such a prominent role in Smart Cities Week,” said Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas Salas. “This is an incredible opportunity to showcase Chula Vista’s innovative achievements to representatives from other smart cities around the United States—and the world.”
The conference is being held at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina. Tickets for the event are still available at https://sandiego2019.smartcitiesweek.com/ and on-site registrations will be accepted.
