CHULA VISTA JOINS NATIONAL CELEBRATION OF IMMIGRANTS SEPTEMBER 13 - 22
The Chula Vista City Council has proclaimed September 13 - 22, 2019 as Welcoming Week to recognize and celebrate immigrant contributions to the community.
“Chula Vista’s celebration of Welcoming Week recognizes our diverse community that is made stronger by all people who live here,” said Mayor Mary Casillas Salas. “I thank our Human Relations Commission that is guiding our efforts to implement our Welcoming City program.”
As part of Welcoming Week, a Know Your Rights forum is being held Saturday, September 21, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Chula Vista Learning Community Charter Elementary School, 590 K St, Chula Vista, 91911. The forum is co-sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee US-Mexico Border Program and the Chula Vista Human Relations Commission.
“These events are part of a powerful and growing movement in our country and around the world demonstrating that communities want to be welcoming," said Rachel Peric, executive director of Welcoming America.
The Human Relations Commission (HRC) was established in 2017 to make recommendations and offer advice to the Mayor, City Council and the City Manager on how best to promote ways in which the community welcomes and embraces its diversity and safeguards equal opportunities for everyone. The HRC meets on the fourth Thursday of each month. For more information, visit www.chulavistaca.gov/welcoming.
