FINAL DESIGNS RELEASED FOR CHULA VISTA BAYFRONT PARKS

Harbor and Sweetwater Parks part of 200+ acres dedicated to parks and open space on the Bayfront

Post Date:11/20/2019 2:14 PM

The Port of San Diego and the City of Chula Vista released the final designs for the Harbor and Sweetwater Parks at a public workshop on November 18, 2019, and are soliciting feedback or comments that may help guide any additional refinements of the design concepts. The deadline to submit final comments is December 1, 2019. Please visit www.portofsandiego.org/chulavistabayfront to view the designs and submit feedback.

The Port and the City have implemented a 16-month outreach process that has invited community members to share their vision for Harbor and Sweetwater Parks and play a critical role in the development of each park’s design. Through this process, the Port, the City and the design teams have learned how the community desires to see their recreational wants and needs balanced with equally important efforts to preserve Chula Vista’s natural resources and improve and protect waterfront access for future generations. Those learnings and preferences have been incorporated into the current design concepts for each park.

Once further refinements are made and schematic designs are completed, Port staff will conduct environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and anticipates returning to the Board of Port Commissioners to request authorization for Coastal Development Permits for the parks in 2020.

The Chula Vista Bayfront project envisions a vibrant, innovative destination for people to live, work and play. When the project is complete, the public will be able to enjoy more than 200 acres of parks, a world-class resort hotel and convention center, a shoreline promenade, walking trails, RV camping, shopping, dining and more. It also will establish ecological buffers to protect wildlife habitat, species and other coastal resources. Learn more at www.portofsandiego.org/chulavistabayfront.
