CONSTRUCTION BEGINS MONDAY ON NEW CHULA VISTA FIRE STATION 9
Measure P sales tax funding construction
The City of Chula Vista will begin construction on the new Fire Station 9 to be located at 100 Moss Street on Monday, April 13. Station 9 is the second fire station to break ground this year with Fire Station 5, at 341 Orange Avenue, commencing construction in early March.
Traffic patterns will change with the construction of Fire Station 9 on the triangle lot bordered by Alpine, Moss and Naples streets. Beginning Monday, permanent road closures will occur on Moss Street between Alpine and Naples, and Alpine will close between Moss and Naples. These changes will allow the fire engines to access the new station efficiently.
Both new fire stations are designed to replace older stations and are being built in neighborhoods that have seen a growth in population. The new stations are planned to serve the community for fifty years.
Fire Stations 5 and 9 are funded by Measure P, the half-cent ten-year tax approved by Chula Vista voters in 2016. Both stations are estimated to cost $17.9 million with a projected completion date of mid-2021.
