TOBACCO SURVEY

Post Date:12/03/2025 10:12 AM

The City of Chula Vista is launching two surveys to gather public input on tobacco-related issues affecting the local youth, neighborhoods, and small businesses. The information collected will help the City better understand how tobacco products are accessed, marketed, and sold within Chula Vista.

The Community Survey asks residents about tobacco use, accessibility, marketing near youth spaces, and concerns about tobacco-related health impacts.

The Retailer Survey is focused on businesses that sell tobacco products and seeks input on tobacco sales, product sourcing, licensing awareness, underage purchase attempts, and the saturation of tobacco retailers in the area.

Both surveys are anonymous and open through Friday, December 19.

“Protecting the health of our children is one of our most important responsibilities,” said Mayor John McCann. “In Chula Vista, we are committed to keeping tobacco products out of young hands so every child can grow up safe, healthy, and ready to thrive. This survey will help us gather feedback from our community and small business owners so we can work together to reduce youth tobacco use and keep our kids safe.”

Survey responses will help guide future programs and policies that encourage responsible tobacco use, reduce youth access, and support a healthier community.

“These surveys are an important tool in developing informed, effective strategies that improve the overall wellbeing of our community,” said Councilmember Cesar Fernandez. “Input from residents and retailers will help us understand community concerns and ensure our policies strengthen youth access prevention efforts.”

This survey initiative supports the City’s ongoing work to ensure that tobacco regulations are effective, evidence-based, and responsive to the needs of both the public and local businesses.
