|At a time when the need to re-evaluate, alter or develop careers is greater than ever, the Chula Vista Public Library offers a new resource to help job seekers through each step of the career change process. Career Transitions, a new electronic resource offering a comprehensive guide to career change, was made possible thanks to a $20,000 grant from the California State Library. Residents may access Career Transitions at the Civic Center, South Chula Vista and Eastlake Branch Libraries, or on the library's website www.chulavistalibrary.com
Career Transitions, a professional product of the Gale/Cengage resource and information company, is a complete, guided, self-paced application that walks the individual through the entire process – assessing strengths and interests, exploring new opportunities, preparing a resume, finding educational opportunities and networking advice, performing a comprehensive job search and applying online. Job seekers are guided by clear and concise information about career paths, industries, companies, job availability, growth potential and professional associations – designed to help make well-planned career choices.
"Career Transitions is a one-stop resource for people going through career change," said Betty Waznis, Library Director. "It comes at a time when people need help making life-changing career choices. Libraries are becoming more and more involved in this process. This resource helps us increase the quality of our service and meet the needs of our residents," continued Waznis.
Across the country, libraries report big increases in people seeking resources to make job-related decisions. Career Transitions encompasses the entire job search process, allowing Chula Vista Public Library users and the librarians assisting them to find answers, whether they are dealing with job loss, re-training needs or looking for new career paths.
