|The City of Chula Vista is accepting applications for seven (7) qualified applicants for a volunteer position on the newly established Historic Preservation Commission. Applications with resumes will be accepted through noon, Thursday, January 19, 2012. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and registered to vote in Chula Vista elections.
The City of Chula Vista is required to have a Historic Preservation Commission to qualify as a Certified Local Government with the State Office of Historic Preservation. The Historic Preservation Commission has authority on designating historical resources, major alterations to historical resources, and historical resource determinations and appeals. The Historic Preservation Commission will advise the City Council and other City Boards and Commissions on historic preservation matters.
A minimum of four (4) members shall be appointed that meet Certified Local Government requirements (Secretary of the Interior Qualification Standards) from among professionals in the disciplines of history, architecture, architectural history, planning, prehistoric archeology, folklore, cultural anthropology, curation, conservation, landscape architecture or related disciplines. In addition, one (1) member shall be a licensed California Realtor and two (2) members with an interest, competence or knowledge in historic preservation.
The meeting schedule for the Historic Preservation Commission has not yet been finalized. City staff anticipates meeting twice per month for the first six months, tentatively scheduled for 4 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of each month, and possibly once a month thereafter.

Each applicant must submit to the City Clerk’s office a completed application and resume by email at email@example.com or by U.S. Mail or by hand delivery. The City Clerk’s office is open Monday – Wednesday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m. to noon. Applications will not be accepted after noon, Thursday, January 19, 2012. Candidates will be contacted if selected for an interview.
