Chula Vista Bayfront Master Plan Recommended for Approval

The City of Chula Vista and the Port of San Diego announced that California Coastal Commission staff is recommending approval of the Port Master Plan Amendment (PMPA) as submitted by the Port, as well as recommending approval of the Chula Vista Local Coastal Program Amendment (LCPA) with modifications.

These amendments, if approved by the Commission at its meeting August 810 in Santa Cruz, enable the Port and City to implement the Chula Vista Bayfront Master Plan (CVBMP), a combined plan to transform 556 acres of underused industrial waterfront into a world-class residential and resort destination.

The plan also incorporates 230 acres of public parks, open space and natural habitat.

"Getting a positive staff recommendation is an important step in the process to gain approval for a plan that has taken more than a decade of public engagement to develop," said Ricardo Macedo, Chair of the South County Economic Development Council. "If the Coastal Commissioners agree to approve the plan, we can begin to provide the quality of life our residents and visitors deserve."

These recommendations set the stage for the public hearing and consideration of the plan by the Coastal Commission. The respective planning documents establish the supporting land use designations and jurisdictional boundaries for the plan, as well as development policies and public access program.

The Coastal Commission requests that comments on the Chula Vista Bayfront Master Plan be submitted in writing and delivered via U.S. Mail or courier service to: Coastal Commission, San Diego District, 7575 Metropolitan Drive, Suite 103, San Diego, CA 92119.All correspondence will be taken into consideration in determining final approval.

More information can be found on the Chula Vista Bayfront Master Plan website, Facebook page, and on Twitter.
