The Chula Vista Office of the City Attorney serves as legal counsel to the City Council, all City Boards and Commissions, the City Manager, City Clerk and all City departments. The Office's primary responsibility is to provide these clients with the legal services they need to develop and implement City policy and to deliver City services in a lawful and efficient manner. The City Attorney's Office is comprised of the Litigation and Advisory divisions, as well as the Neighborhood Protection Unit.

Marco Verdugo serves as Chula Vista’s City Attorney, the City’s general counsel on all legal matters. He was sworn in on April 9, 2024, as Chula Vista’s City Attorney. The City Attorney provides counsel to the City Council, city officials, boards, commissions, and departments on legal matters. His responsibilities also include drafting and reviewing municipal contracts, ordinances, and resolutions. This office also plays a key role in advising on land use, public safety, labor law, and compliance with state and state regulations.
