Home MenuEucalyptus Park Renovations Project
The City will launch construction in January 2025 on a major renovation project at Eucalyptus Park. Once completed, the upgraded park will provide the community with additional recreation offerings and updated amenities.
Because of the scale of the project, the lower portion of the park (as depicted in the foreground below) is expected to be closed until summer 2026. Menzel Field, located in the upper level, will remain open for public use.
History of Eucalyptus Park
Eucalyptus Park was the City’s first park, built in 1927. This 19.69-acre community park is located at 436 C Street and stretches from 5th Avenue and 4th Avenue.
The renovation work is being funded in part by a $7,140,000 grant from the Statewide Parks Program’s Round Four, awarded in February 2022. The grant is also helping to cover the cost of a remodel of nearby Casa Casillas.
New Eucalyptus park amenities funded by the state grant will include:
- multi-purpose field with lighting
- interactive water feature
- skate/scooter plaza
- bike skills plaza and jump area
- perimeter walking path
- fitness equipment
- pickleball courts with lighting
- additional parking by the softball field
- new park monument sign
- new playground equipment and surfacing
- renovated small and large dog park areas
In October 2022, the City hired the landscape architecture firm KTUA to handle design, pre-construction and construction administration services for the park renovation project. Following a series of community workshops and public engagement surveys, an updated Eucalyptus Park Master Plan (seen below) was presented to the Parks and Recreation Commission in April 2023 and approved by City Council in June 2023.
Park Master Plan
In December 2023, the City Council approved funding to expand the renovation work. Using this funding, the following existing facilities will also be upgraded:
- tennis courts and lighting
- softball field and lighting
- basketball court
- picnic shelters
- restroom and storage buildings
- trash enclosure
- park fencing
