All business licenses must be renewed annually. The City mails courtesy reminder notices in November. To avoid penalties, complete the renewal notice and return it with payment in full by January 31st.
For each month that business license taxes are not paid, beginning February 1st, a 10% penalty will be assessed (March 1st: 20%, April 1st: 30%, May 1st: 40%, June 1st: 50%). All business license taxes not paid by July 1st will be assessed a 60% penalty and may be referred to Code Enforcement for further action.
SB205 - Storm Water Industrial General Permit Requirements
Starting January 1st, 2020, a person conducting a business operation that is subject to the State Industrial General Storm Water Permit (IGP), 2014-0057-DWQ, shall demonstrate enrollment when applying for an initial business license or business license renewal. Business operations subject to the IGP can be found here. If you have any questions regarding your business’ subjectivity to the IGP, please contact the City’s Storm Water Management Section at 619-397-6111.
Renewals for businesses subject to the IGP must submit the renewal notice by mail or in person at the City of Chula Vista Finance Department. Online renewals are not available at this time.
You can use the online renewal system if there are no changes in the amount due for your business license.
If changes to your business license could increase or decrease the amount due listed on your renewal, please submit your changes and payment by mail or in person at the City of Chula Vista Finance Department.
The following updates can be made without affecting the amount due:
- Mailing address
- Phone number
- E-mail address
- Website address
- Emergency contact
You will be able to continue with your online payment after you submit your changes to the above items.
