In 2024, police, fire and emergency management leaders from throughout San Diego County invested in a new technology that will make emergency notifications and protective action instructions more precise and efficient.

The Genasys PROTECT ("Genasys") app is a complementary tool that helps amplify public alert and warning messages. Genasys provides a visual representation of affected areas, such as evacuation zones or communities being instructed to shelter in place. In addition, the app includes critical information such as evacuation routes, road closures, shelter locations or temporary evacuation points.

Residents are encouraged to download the Genasys app and subscribe to the zones that are most common to their everyday life (e.g. home, school, work locations) Real-time, actionable updates are provided through the Genasys system to help residents make informed decisions for their personal safety.
