A native of San Diego, Edward Chew III was promoted to the position of Director of the Information Technology Services Department in July 2014. His career with the City of Chula Vista began in 1991 as an intern for the Human Resources Department. After completing his Bachelors' Degree in Public Administration from San Diego State University, he was hired full time in the Human Resources Department. He obtained his Masters' Degree in Business Administration in 1998 from Cal State San Marcos. Ed was promoted to Administrative Services Manager in the Police Department in 2002, and oversaw Records, Technology, Research and Analysis, Crime Lab, Evidence/Property and Fiscal Resources. Ed was actively involved in the Police Departments technology administration. Ed was also named the City’s “Continuous Improvement Manager” in 2011, and spearheaded the City’s Continuous Improvement Program.
Over his career Ed has played an active role in the City's budget development process, participated on various negotiation teams, and was instrumental in implementing integrated Payroll/Human Resources software. He and his wife enjoy traveling throughout the world and learning about different cultures. He’s an avid tech geek and has assembled his own home computers since 1995.
