Casa Casillas is a new public cultural arts center that will feature a gallery and studio spaces for artists-in-residence. The center is named in honor of Paula Casillas, a lifelong resident of Chula Vista, former Rohr employee, and mother of former Mayor Mary Casillas Salas. Paula Casillas took art classes at a Chula Vista recreation center which inspired a creative passion and led to a prolific body of art work.

Artist-in-Residence Program

We are now accepting applications for the next Artist-in-Residence Program at Casa Casillas! This residency open call is for practicing 2D visual artists. This includes those working in paint, drawing, and mixed media. Preference will be given to artists currently living in Chula Vista. Resident artists will create new art for Casa Casillas and other City facilities, work with staff to provide exhibitions and programs, and provide opportunities to engage with the public. Each artist will be provided with studio space at Casa Casillas and a monthly stipend of $1,000 for the duration of the residency. For this upcoming program, applicants may choose their preference for a 6-month or 9-month residency.
