Chula Vista History

The library offers digital archives of newspapers based in the South Bay area of San Diego County.  Users in the library can access Otay Press, The Chula Vista Star, and The Chula Vista Star-News archives through Newspapers.com. Free access to this resource is limited to users in the library.

Viewing Physical Items from Local History Collection In Person 

Physical copies of certain photos, as well as physical copies of yearbooks are available to be viewed with an advance appointment. In order to make an appointment, please fill out this Local History Request Form and email it to localhistory@chulavistaca.gov. Please allow 2-3 weeks for your request to be processed. 

A current, government-issued photo ID will need to be presented to library staff and left at the front desk as collateral while viewing items in the library. Viewing appointments last a maximum of 2 hours and are limited to no more than 2 photo boxes or 10 yearbooks per viewing session. 

Please note that physical copies of historical newspapers and other objects/ephemera are not available for public viewing.
